Custom Made Orthotics
Orthotics are special inserts or shoes that are designed to compensate for painful foot conditions or preventative foot care. The feet consist of more than 100 ligaments, tendons, and muscles, as well as 33 joints and 26 bones. Many problems can develop in this complex extremity that can be more than just annoying. Some conditions can make daily life difficult or even be life-threatening.
The feet are extraordinary parts of the body, designed to support the entire weight of the body and allow for balance, standing, and walking. The many different parts of the foot are also prone to injury and disease. Symptoms in the feet may be the first indication of bigger problems, such as poor circulation, heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes.
When treating conditions that affect the feet or pain in the foot, leg, or back, custom-made orthotics can be highly effective. Over-the-counter shoe inserts may be an initial suggestion, but if the pain is not alleviated or continued problems are encountered, a custom-fit orthotic may be necessary.
