Fracture Care

Foot and ankle fractures are complex and require specialized care. Of course, fractures may need an emergency room visit if obtained after hours, but further follow-up will need to be done in the office. Shari L. Kaminsky, DPM PC, is an expert in caring for foot and ankle fractures in Florissant, Missouri.

The feet and ankles are designed to bear the entire weight of the body while standing, bending, walking, and running. The complexity of the multiple bones, ligaments, and tendons also makes the feet more prone to injury. Sprains and fractures are easy to sustain and require professional treatment to avoid future mobility problems.

When a crack or break happens but does not displace any of the bone, it is called a stress fracture.

Ankle joint fractures may require surgery and require immediate assessment due to the potential for serious complications.

Metatarsal bone fractures in the middle of the foot can cause malalignment issues that need correction.

Sesamoid bones are the two small round bones on the end of the metatarsal bone in the big toe. Pain relief from a fracture of these bones may be found with just padded shoes, but a serious fracture may require bone removal.

Toe fractures typically heal without needing a cast.
